According to the FEMA National Risk Index, Boulder County is ranked as “relatively moderate” for natural hazards while the majority of Colorado is ranked as relatively low risk. Some of the specific hazards we are at risk for include high wind, wildfire, flooding, hail, lightning, landslides, winter weather, cold waves, and even tornados. This area of the state is no stranger to disasters and many of the residents have been personally impacted by such disasters. Being prepared for disasters and having a plan can reduce risk to people, their animals, their homes, and their communities as well as make the recovery smoother.
