“Boulder County Parks & Open Space POS, Spotlight: CSU Extension Home Horticulture — Creating a Modern “Victory Garden”

In a normal year, CSU Extension’s Home Horticulture program would be staffing the in-office Colorado Master Gardener Help Desk, accepting plant samples for analysis by the Master Gardener diagnosticians, doing lawn checks for home owners, and sending volunteer members of the Tree Team out to meet the public in addition to many in-person education events for volunteers and the public alike.

Carol and Kristen have been consistent champions of local projects to fight food insecurity and were thrilled to be able to join with a group of their fellow Colorado Master Gardener Coordinators and CSU Extension Agents to create a statewide effort with the same goal—Grow&GiveTM, a modern victory garden project. Grow&Give provides educational resources to home gardeners and encourages produce donation to their local food banks, pantries and neighbors in need. By season’s end, Boulder County 155 registered gardeners had donated 7,790 of the 47,142.015 pounds of produce donated statewide as part of the Grow&Give initiative.
