Support 4-H Programs at the 2023 Boulder County Fair

Are you interested in helping support our 4-H members? The Boulder County Fair offers ways for our community to show their support of the countless hours our members have dedicated to their projects:

2023 Junior Livestock Sale – click on the link to discover opportunities to support our members and their livestock projects. The sale will be on Sunday, August 13. Here is what the schedule looks like:

  • 10:00 a.m. Cowboy Church (Indoor Arena)
  • 11:30 a.m. Buyers VIP Luncheon (ticket event)
  • 1:30 p.m. Parade of Champions
  • 2:00 p.m. LIVE AUCTION!

2023 Fairgrounds Camping
Reservations for camping during the Boulder County Fair open on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Reservations will not be accepted before this date.
To reserve a site, please call Derek Kirkman, Campground Host, at 303-682-6762 or email campground@bouldercounty.org.  Campground Office hours are:  Tuesday-Saturday, 8 am-4:30 pm
 
The 2023 Fair reduced rates are available for:
4-H Youth/Families/Leaders/FFA/Fair Board Members/Volunteers/Superintendents
The 2023 Fair reduced rates per night are:
$18/both hookups
$12/1 hookup
$8/no hookups

If you want the reduced rates, you cannot pay at the PayStation; you must pay the campground host directly with cash or check only. If you pay at the PayStation, we will not be able to give a refund. Please note payment must be made at the time of check-in. Failure to pay upon arrival will result in losing your site. The dates available for reservations are Thursday-Sunday, August 3-13, 2023. Make a reservation early – spots fill up fast.

Upcoming Timeline of General Events

7/20 – 7/30Interview Signups will open at 10 AM on July 20.  It is first-come, first-served.  The links will be sent out prior to the open date.  Signups will close on July 30 at midnight. 

THURSDAY  8/3   9:00 AM- 3:00 – Interview Judging Day, Exhibit Building

Please arrive for your interview on time.  Most interviews are scheduled for 15-minute intervals. Cloverbud interviews are shorter.  Superintendents and teen Clerks should arrive by 8:15.

  • 4-H Product Sale will take place online.  You will be notified of your eligibility following interview judging.  All participating entries must be confirmed by August 11.  Entries from the Fiber category will need to be dropped off during Interview Judging.

SATURDAY  8/12   6:30 PM – Public 4-H Fashion Revue, Exhibit Building.

SUNDAY  8/13   9:00 AM – General Project Awards, Exhibit Building- if you were a General Project Grand and Reserve Grand award winner – this is for YOU!

MONDAY  8/14   4:00-6:00 PM Exhibit Release & State Fair Check-in, Exhibit Building

If your item is a champion of the unit, it will be eligible for State Fair Exhibition.  You will need to bring your state fair bound project prepared to travel but not sealed, during the designated time. You may make edits suggested by the judge and remake any perishable items (cakes/ food).

Interview Judging Information – August 3, 9 AM- 3 PM

Use the Signup Genius links to plan your interview(s) times.  ALL the signups will appear as tabs to select, there are 12 tabs to choose from.  Please make sure you are on the CORRECT department signup before choosing your times.  This can be difficult to see on a mobile device.  Each signup tab is for a single judge that will be interviewing the projects listed.  If you have more than one project in a single department, you can schedule back-to-back interviews.  

Department listings can be found in the State Fair Exhibit Requirements/ Fairbook. Interview slots begin at 9 AM, judging break for lunch is scheduled at 11:30.

If members would like to have their projects evaluated but are unable to attend, they are invited to use the Absentee Interview Form and include it with their project and record book for evaluation during the Interview Judging Day.  Please make sure all items are labeled with name. 

All interviews will take place at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building, which is located on the West side of the fairgrounds.  Please use the West or South parking lots and enter through the corresponding doors.  Find your check-in table and wait or continue to your interview. Open Class judging will also be taking place so please make sure you are in the right place.

WANTED – Teen Clerks!

Looking for an opportunity to help at the Boulder County Fair? Consider being a Teen Clerk on Interview Judging Day! No experience necessary!

Throughout the day, 4-H members will be bringing their projects to the Exhibit Building on the Fairgrounds.  We need Teen Clerks – ages 13 and up – to help make the event run smoothly. 

Teen clerk responsibilities are:

  • Attend Interview Judging all day (9:00 AM- 5:00 PM or until your project area has completed assigning awards)
  • Act as assistant to the Superintendent
  • Check-in members projects
  • Help arrange the judged projects in their proper display area at the conclusion of judging
  • Confirm ribbons are accurate and attached
  • Be helpful, courteous and inviting as participants await their interviews
  • Lunch and snacks will be provided. Teen clerks will have time to interview for their own projects.  Scheduling time will be between the Superintendent and the clerk.
  • Serving as a Teen Clerk qualifies as a 4-h community service activity and is a great way tot help the organization. Time spent as Teen Clerk counts toward National Honor Society community service.

There are plenty of project areas in need of a teen clerk.  If you are interested, please send an email to Jeannie Torres,  jetorres@bouldercounty.org.  Being a Teen Clerk is a fun way to kick off the Boulder County Fair activities!

Wristbands and daily gate admission passes for the Colorado State Fair are available for order here:  https://forms.gle/taK4L8NeF35WF5QVA, payment can be made at the above square site.   ALL orders/ payments must be received by August 7 or we will not place the order for you.  You will need to pick up any passes or wristbands during office hours after August 16.
